Bateson Green Gets £52,000 for park improvements

Cambridge’s Bateson Green is to get improvements to its play park and community space after it was awarded £52,000.

The money from Cambridge City Council comes after Liberal Democrat Councillors in West Chesterton worked with the community group and residents to secure the money.

Last night (Thursday, November 20) they heard their application had been successful at the city’s North Area Committee.

Cllr Damien Tunnacliffe said: “It has been great to hear the views of all ages and to engage with children who are bursting with ideas of how they would like to improve their area.

“We have worked with the community group and residents throughout the application process and are fully supportive of the City Council spending the money to improve the area to develop an attractive and active space for all.”

Cllr Ysanne Austin said: “We look forward to teh ongoing consultation with this community to tie down the precise details of what is needed to create a safe, secure space which the local community will use and take a pride in.”

The City Council; have also approved their commitment to a local highways initiative to make the roads around the area safer. The initiative now awaits consideration from Cambridgeshire County Council.
