Carer’s bonus for county’s unsung heroes welcomed by Huppert

More than 6,500 full-time carers in Cambridgeshire – including 750 in Cambridge – would receive a bonus worth up to £250 a year from the Lib Dems in Government for taking care of friends and family.

The proposal for a Carer’s bonus has been welcomed by Cambridge MP, Julian Huppert who says it goes some way to recognising the selfless contribution these people make to society.

“Already in government we have managed to find money to help carers take a break from their responsibilities, and to pay for short breaks for disabled children and their families, but there is more to do” he said. “Carers do a fantastic job; they are the unsung heroes of our communities.”
“It is estimated that six in 10 of us will, at some point in our lives find ourselves caring for someone else whether that be an elderly relative, a sick child or a friend who needs support.”
The Carer’s Bonus would help one million people across the country including £6,550 in Cambridgeshire.
