Huge Traffic Rise to hit Cambridge with 10-lane A14

Roads into Cambridge will see a massive increase in traffic if plans, backed by the Conservative-run County Council, to upgrade the A14 get the go-ahead.

Under these proposals the A14 would be 6-lanes all the way between Cambridge and Huntingdon, with an additional 4-lane road built in parallel. According to the scheme's own figures, the Huntington Road would see a 40% rise in traffic.

Cambridge's Liberal Democrat MP, David Howarth, commented,

"These plans go way beyond the safety improvements which many of the A14's junctions need."

"Anyone concerned about the impact of traffic emissions on global warming should be very worried."
