MP to join anti-war protestors

Cambridge MP, David Howarth, will be joining protestors today calling for the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq.

Mr Howarth will join the demonstration organised by the Stop the War Coalition in Trafalgar Square. The rally was due to end with a march to Parliament Square but the police and Westminster authorities have attempted to ban the march under 19th century legislation designed to protect MPs against radical Chartist mobs. Mr Howarth commented:

"This is an outrageous attempt by the Government to block the democratic right to protest.

"This is a legitimate and important protest against an illegal war which Britain should never have been involved in. The Government should be listening to the people's protests not attempting to block them."
