David HowarthCommenting on today's announcement of government plans to close 20 magistrates' courts, Liberal Democrat Shadow Justice Secretary, David Howarth said: "Moves like this risk undermining the vital principle of local justice.

"It is impossible for the public to feel involved in the justice system if victims and witnesses are forced to go miles away to court for their cases to be heard.

"This only leads to trials collapsing and justice not being done."
