Julian HuppertA sheltered housing complex in Cambridge which is being redeveloped to provide 40 flats with extra care services, is being visited yesterday (Wednesday, April 21) by Julian Huppert, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Cambridge.

Simons House in Histon Road was built in the 1970s as mainly bedsit accommodation.

Now it is being redeveloped to the highest standards and when completed, will be carbon neutral and make use of the latest technology.

Julian will be shown round the site by Nigel Howlett, Chief Executive of the Cambridge Housing Society which will own and manage the finished complex of one and two-bedroom flats.

"This is an excellent project," said Julian. "It allows elderly people to retain their independence but with the added benefit of care support services should they require them.

"The building is being redeveloped to one of the highest standards for sustainable homes and reinforces the Lib Dems' commitment to cutting the city's carbon footprint at every opportunity."

On Friday, April 23 Julian will be meeting up with former Cambridge MP David Howarth to visit St Georges Court Care Home in Russell Street which is holding an Open Day.
