Julian HuppertJulian Huppert won the Cambridge seat with an increased majority of almost 6,800 when the city went to the polls.

He beat off the Labour challenge polling 19,621 votes to become Cambridge's new MP taking over from predecessor David Howarth who held the seat since 2005.

Julian reported that there had been a positive mood in the city throughout his campaign and he believed the televised leaders' debates helped.

"I am delighted to be given the chance to represent my home city as its MP," he said. "This is a great honour.

"People in Cambridge have seen the work that the Lib Dems can do on the city council and in Parliament. I promise to be a strong representative for the people in Westminster."
