HuppertMP Julian Huppert will return to his former workplace on Friday (September 10) to join visiting Universities and Science Minister, David Willetts,

Mr Willetts has been invited to open the new Titan 3 Electron Microscope, favoured by leading researchers around the world, at the Cavendish Laboratory's Nanoscience Building.

After the visit Julian will attend the topping out ceremony at the new £200 million Lab of Molecular Biology built by the Medical Research Council on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The new building is designed to ensure that the institute remains a globally competitive research centre.

Julian said: "These investments in science research are vital if the UK is to remain a world leader and attract and retain the best researchers.

"The government is facing tough decisions as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review and I will be fighting to protect the science and university budgets from cuts which could have serious implications not only for the work taking place today but for generations to come.

"I am delighted that the minister is taking time out of his busy schedule to visit Cambridge and see for himself the ground-breaking work that is underway here."
