Julian congratulates David Boffey from Time Bank on the group's lottery award

A unique Cambridge group which encourages its members to trade their time has been congratulated by the city's MP after securing a £43,000 lottery "win".

The 85 members of the Freedom Club Time Bank have swapped 6,845 hours, sharing skills to help out with tasks such as patio laying, painting, gardening and giving lifts.

They were awarded a grant from the BIG Lottery Fund Reaching Communities programme which aims to build stronger communities. The grant was given to allow them to expand their services and secure the time bank's long term operation. They have set up two other successful schemes in Peterborough

Julian said: "This is an excellent example of people working together to help each other which builds stronger communities.

"This scheme offers a safe network where people can have confidence in the work being offered and it gives them a chance to make use of their skills to help others. There are great benefits for all concerned.

"I am delighted that they have been awarded this grant so that more people can benefit from this idea."
