Our world faces many challenges. Extreme poverty continues to blight the lives of hundreds of millions, and wars continue to run rife in many countries.
We are proud that we were the first Government ever to spend 0.7% of GNI on international development aid, something we promised to do in 1970. This makes sense because it will help tackle poverty and bring more stability to the world, making us all safer.
We are great believers in an ethical foreign policy, and have opposed military intervention overseas when it was not the right thing to do.
