Cambridge MP Julian Huppert is promoting a new awards scheme aimed at marking the achievements of people who have forged stronger links between the UK and India.

The Dadabhai Naoroji Awards, dedicated to the first Asian MP in the UK, were launched by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg during his visit to Mumbai.

Julian is urging Cambridge residents to nominate anyone who has worked hard to promote UK-India relations whether it be through business, culture or education.

He said: “We have such a vibrant community in Cambridge and I’m sure there must be people living in the city who have strengthened and promoted links between these two nations.

“I hope people will take the time to nominate them so that they can receive the recognition they deserve. These awards are an interesting concept and I’m sure they will throw light on some truly inspirational characters.”

Anyone who would like to nominate an individual of British or Indian nationality can do so by visiting: http://www.libdems.org.uk/dadabhainaorojiawards Nominations close at midnight on September 30.

Winners will be presented with their awards at a ceremony hosted by Nick Clegg at the Foreign Office in the autumn.
