Lib Dems shine light on issue

Newnham Lib Dems are fighting County Council proposals to switch off street lights between 12-6am across our area.

Instead, the local team are calling on the Council to dim lights between those hours to ensure residents’ safety when travelling during the early hours, particularly young people.

County Councillor Lucy Nethnsingha commented, “Residents’ safety must come first! That’s why we’re calling for the lights to be dimmed.”

They have set up a petition, which residents can sign at: http://tinyurl.com/newnhamstreetlights

Lib Dem County Councillor Lucy Nethsingha said: “We’re pushing the County Council to dim the lights, rather than switch them off altogether. This will ensure residents remain safe at night, as well as have a positive impact on the environment through reduced electricity use and light pollution.”

Details on which streets will be impacted by the proposals can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/camstreetlight

The County Council have launched a consultation, you can take part here: http://tinyurl.com/Streetlightconsultation
