Pee pods come to Cambridge

12.00.00am GMT Fri 17th Dec 2004

Cambridge is to experiment with mobile urinals to tackle the growing nuisance of late-night revellers who urinate against city centre walls. Relief is on the way thanks to the Cleaner Cambridge Campaign Group, which has arranged for six mobile urinals to be trialled around the city centre tonight.

Lib Dem city councillor Marie-Louise Holland explained: "These 'Pee Pods' are a very welcome experiment for the city, which is blighted by urine-stained walls after people come out of pubs and clubs. Pee Pods will mean that anyone caught short while on the way home will be able to spend a penny, without it costing local businesses thousands of pounds in cleaning up."

Councillor Holland, who is an active member of the Cleaner Cambridge Campaign Group, went on to add, "We are trying out six of these pee pods on Friday, and hope that if it works local businesses will sponsor permanent ones around the town centre. A cleaner, less smelly Cambridge is in everyone's interests and I appeal to brewers, club owners and owners of mobile fast food outlets to participate in a 'Cambridge Pee Pod' sponsorship scheme."
