Howarth corrects Home Office forms

2.10.24pm GMT Thu 17th Nov 2005

David Howarth, MP for Cambridge, has forced the Home Office to clarify its language in applications for naturalisation.

At present the Home Office's form for application for naturalisation gives instructions for EEA nationals but gives no explanation of the fact that the EEA includes the EU. Following a complaint by a Cambridge resident who was refused in his application for naturalisation for misunderstanding this, David campaigned for the Home Office to explain this point and so simplify the already complicated naturalisation procedure.

Commenting on this success, David said:

"It is important to make these procedures and forms as straightforward and accurate as possible. No benefit is gained for confusing applicants and I'm pleased that the Home Office have realised this."
