Community Centre to receive £20K grant from City Council12.00.00am GMT Fri 20th Jan 2006 Executive City Councillor for Community Development and Leisure, Joye Rosenstiel has today announced a grant of £20,000 to the Centre at St Paul's for its refurbishment. The decision was made at a meeting of the City Council's Community Services Scrutiny Committee on Thursday 19th January. The £20,000 promised by the City Council will cover almost half of the £45,000 required for the refurbishment with the bulk of the rest being raised independently by St Paul's Church. The Centre at St Paul's on Hills Road is a popular community facility serving the New Town area of Trumpington and other neighbourhoods. The grant of £20,000 will go towards refurbishing the kitchen which was installed nearly 10 years ago when the Centre opened in November 1995. The kitchen refurbishment is part of a whole range of initiatives by the Centre management to improve and expand the capacity of the Centre including building a multi-purpose games area and increased youth provision. Commenting on the decision, Cllr Joye Rosenstiel said: "I'm delighted to be able to announce this extra funding to the Centre at St. Paul's. The Centre provides a great facility of all sectors of the local community from the older people's Lunch Club to toddler groups and youth groups and the Council is very pleased to be able to help with the costs of the Centre's refurbishment."
