City Council encourages small business to tender for Council contracts12.00.00am GMT Wed 18th Jan 2006 Executive City Councillor for Customer Services and Resources, Jennifer Liddle, has today applauded the decision to amend Council tendering rules to make it easier for smaller businesses to win Council contracts. The motion was passed in a Customer Services and Resources Scrutiny Committee meeting yesterday and introduces a new standardised pre-qualification process. This will save much of the time and money spent on the pre-qualification process before each procurement bid. Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) will benefit the most from this decision and it is hoped that the move will create a level playing field for such companies. Commenting on the decision, Cllr Liddle said: "When putting Council contracts up for tender, it is important that the process is fair and open. By standardising the pre-qualification process, making it easier and cheaper, we are hoping that more small and medium sized businesses will be encouraged to tender for contracts."
