City Council reaffirms commitment to 'buy green'

12.00.00am GMT Wed 18th Jan 2006

Executive City Councillor for Customer Services and Resources, Jennifer Liddle, today welcomed the introduction of a 'Buying Green Guide' by the Customer Services and Resources Scrutiny Committee.

The Guide lays out a policy of buying green, sustainable and fair-trade products whenever possible, continuing a trend of green procurement policies by the City Council.

Commenting on the decision, Cllr Liddle said:

"The City Council has been committed to using green and fair-trade products for a long time and this Guide will make this policy easier and clearer for all council departments to follow.

"We have always taken very seriously the need to be environmentally responsible and so this decision will make sure that we live up to our environmental commitments."
