Varsity Rivals to learn from Cambridge Lib Dems

Putting aside the two cities' historic rivalry for one day, a delegation from Oxford City Council's Liberal Democrat Group is to visit Cambridge in order to learn the secrets of success in local government from a council rated 'excellent' by the independent Audit Commission.

The group from Oxford, who are currently the second largest party in a Labour-led minority administration, will spend a day with representatives from Cambridge City Council's ruling Liberal Democrat group discovering how a successful Liberal Democrat council was won and is run.

Ahead of the visit, Leader of the City Council, Ian Nimmo-Smith commented:

"This visit is a great opportunity to build good relationships with Oxford City Council which faces many similar challenges to those we tackle in Cambridge.

"The Oxford Lib Dem group are very interested in hearing about how our City Rangers work and what we're doing to improve recycling and waste collection in the city.

"We will also be comparing our two cities' approaches to the Green Belt and the provision of new housing to match growth in our knowledge-based economies."
