Urgent review needed to stop carbon trading giveaway10.15.24am GMT Wed 3rd May 2006 David Howarth, Liberal Democrat Energy Spokesperson, has today reacted to the news that power firms could make £1 billion profit from the EU Carbon Emission Trading Scheme. Mr. Howarth commented on the news: "We need an urgent review of the way the UK implements the Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme. Power firms should not be making large profits on the scheme. "The next round of permits must be auctioned, rather than given out for free and it is crucial that the Government commits to this now."
