Labour poll shows little public support for nuclear11.59.35am GMT Fri 21st Jul 2006 An online opinion poll conducted by the Labour Party website has found that a majority of respondents disagree with the idea of building a new generation of nuclear power stations to replace the current ageing ones. By Thursday 20 July, 53% of respondents had voted NO to the question 'Should new nuclear power stations replace our ageing ones?' and only 41% said yes. David Howarth, Lib Dem Spokesperson on Energy, commented on the poll:
"Tony Blair is kidding himself if he thinks that nuclear power is the solution to the energy crisis or that the majority of the public is behind him on this. Even the Labour Party's own website poll did not show a majority of support for the nuclear option."
