BT leaves callers in the dark

10.02.49am GMT Wed 11th Oct 2006

Lib Dem County Councillor for Queen Edith's, Cambridge, Geoff Heathcock has criticised BT for it's incompetence in dealing with telephone boxes in Queen Edith's.

Geoff's comments follow a long list of mistakes and chaos surrounding fixing a broken unlit Payphone kiosk. Back in August Geoff reported the darkened kiosk to BT, only to be twice told that it had already been repaired. Subsequently, it turned out that

the company had attended to the wrong address.

Almost 6 weeks later the problem has still not be fixed and now the company is claiming that as the kiosk is underused, the power will not be returned.

Geoff commented on the chaos:

"This is like a soap opera. BT has been changing its position on this telephone box continually.

"At this time of year people don't use the phone box because it is pitch dark inside. Would you feel safe in a dark kiosk trying to make a call?

"All this is from a company that makes a multi-billion pound profit each year - this is appalling and I shall be making another appeal to BT to use some common sense."
