Local resident demands action on litter

12.00.00pm GMT Fri 10th Nov 2006

Trumpington resident, and Lib Dem candidate in the Trumpington by-election, Andrew Blackhurst, has written to Council officers asking for urgent action to combat litter in Trumpington.

Andrew wrote to the Director of City Services following a survey of residents in Trumpington village which raised concerns about litter.

Andrew commented:

"Many residents have raised concerns about the amount of litter dropped in Trumpington, especially in the area of Anstey Way and Trumpington High Street. Customers drop litter near the take-away outlets and near the bus stops. More litter bins in these areas would certainly help. The Council officers could also work with the take-away owners to tackle this problem. Finally there might be a role for stronger enforcement such as on-the-spot fines for offenders.

"I have written to the Council to ask them how they intend to improve the litter situation in the village. It is clearly a matter of concern to local residents. Several local residents have also offered to join me in a community litter-pick in some of the worst affected areas."
