MP in protest for pensions compensation

1.00.00pm GMT Thu 8th Feb 2007

David Howarth, MP for Cambridge, has today demanded compensation for those who have lost their occupational pensions.

His comments came during a protest in Westminster to demand action to compensate people left stranded when their occupational pension scheme was wound-up.

Mr. Howarth said:

"Far too many occupational pension schemes have wound up with inadequate funds. Workers are left with their pensions in tatters.

"The Government has been found guilty of maladministration in occupational pensions by the Parliamentary Ombudsman and now it is time that they start to take responsibility for their mistakes.

"Proper compensation is needed for workers who have lost out when their employers have gone bust or because their pension scheme wound-up under-funded.
