Students grill politicians

12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 23rd Jun 2007

Cambridge MP David Howarth has been quizzed by 80 young people from across Cambridgeshire.

The young people were taking part in Democracy Matters, a series of political awareness days for Cambridgeshire students, held at Shire Hall in Cambridge. Students from City of Ely Community College and Bassingbourn Village College questioned a panel of politicians and journalists from the area.

Mr Howarth commented:

"We all faced some excellent and challenging questions. The young people were very concerned about what is being done to tackle climate change. For some of those asking questions today, the dangers facing the planet and the steps we all need to take to tackle climate change seem obvious. Politicians could learn an awful lot from these young people."
