CAMBRIDGE AMONG TOP-PERFORMING COUNCILS - CITY COUNCIL12.00.00am GMT Wed 30th Jan 2008 Cambridge City Council has been named one of the best-run councils in the country. A report by the Audit Commission ranks Cambridge among the top-performing councils in England for the way it manages tax-payers' money. Cambridge is one of only thirteen district councils to get top marks for use of resources out of 238 councils. It is also one of only six district councils to get a top score for financial management which includes medium-term financial planning and asset management. Councillor Ian Nimmo-Smith, Leader of Cambridge City Council, said: "I am delighted and proud to see that Cambridge has done so well. These results show the Liberal Democrats' dedication and commitment to our city. "Since the Liberal Democrats came to power, we've constantly tried to improve the quality of service in Cambridge while keeping council tax rises as low as we can. We are committed to going even further in our efforts to provide high-quality local services to Cambridge residents." The Audit Commission, an independent body, notes that Cambridge City Council continues to show its strongest overall performance in its financial standing.
