"WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?" ASK LIB DEM COUNTY COUNCILLORS - COUNTY

12.00.00am GMT Wed 27th Feb 2008

Despite Liberal Democrat protests, the Conservatives on Cambridgeshire County Council will spend an extra £125,000 every year on the glossy publication "Your Cambridgeshire".

This publication is to be delivered to every household four times a year.

Liberal Democrat Resources Spokesperson, Cllr Nichola Harrison, said:

"The Conservatives claim the Council is cash-strapped and they have repeatedly cut essential basic services. Yet this latest PR exercise is considered a top priority and the next edition will unsurprisingly come out two weeks before the local elections.

"£125,000 could pay for:

  • 789 elderly or disabled people to receive benefits advice;

  • 14,750 hours of teaching support for children with special needs;

  • 41 kilometres of surface treatment for pavements;

  • 7,812 hours of home care for elderly people.

"The Liberal Democrats would choose to spend taxpayers' money on services that benefit them so we need to ask them: 'Which would you choose?'".
