CYCLISTS FORCED OFF THEIR BIKES BY COUNTY COUNCIL - CITY12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 21st May 2008 Cambridgeshire County Council's schemes are forcing cyclists off their bikes, denounced Lib Dem Councillor for Market, Tim Bick. Although Emmanuel Street will officially be made a one-way street on May 21st, the opening of a contra-flow lane for cyclists on Emmanuel Street has been postponed for some extra months. Additional roadwork starting June 2nd will make the street just wide enough for buses. Councillor Bick expressed concerns over this unexpected delay: "This is another display of the County Council's obvious incompetence. Because of this delay, people are being forced off their bikes. "Cyclists have used this street for years and might not be aware of the change. The lack of a cycle lane will endanger their safety. It's very frustrating to see that the County Council can't even cope with a small scheme like this." ENDS
