Cambridge MP David Howarth met with Professor Peter Littlewood at the Cavendish Laboratory to discuss physics research funding and ongoing improvements on the site.

The construction of a new building for Physics of Medicine is well underway. The building will provide students and researchers with modern and efficient infrastructures for new research programmes in bio- and medical physics.

Mr Howarth and Professor Littlewood also discussed new research projects in the Astrophysics group, including research focusing on the formation of stars, and in Semiconductor Physics, developing quantum information technologies.

Mr Howarth commented:

"Professor Littlewood and his team are doing an outstanding job at the Cavendish Lab. Their research programmes are fascinating and will without a doubt lead to major breakthroughs in physics.

"I'm delighted to see that the new building is nearly complete. The new infrastructures will be a great setting for students and researcher.

"We also need to find new ways to promote physics studies among young people. There are fantastic opportunities in the field and I hope many new students will join the Cavendish lab in the coming years."
