The Liberal Democrats will lead the fight to stop the Tories scrapping the Act just as we successfully did as part of the last government.
We are a party that believes fundamentally in the right of people to live peaceful lives free from persecution and oppression. So far more than 25,000 people have signed a petition calling on the Conservatives to scrap plans to abandon our commitment to human rights. It comes as David Cameron said he would consult on the future of the Human Rights Act in the UK.
Now we are urging Cambridge residents to speak up for legislation that has:
- Stopped the state spying on us, supported peaceful protest and protected soldiers.
- Helped rape victims, defended domestic violence victims and guarded against slavery.
- Supported those in care, shielded press freedom and provided answers for grieving families.
- Preserved our right to a fair trial, prevented indiscriminate stop-and-search and protected minorities.
Join our fight to protect civil liberties, and defend human rights.
