Tuition Fees

Previous MP for Cambridge, Julian Huppert, opposed tuition fees. He voted against the decision to increase tuition fees to £9,000.

While in Government we were pleased that the Liberal Democrat efforts secured a massive increase in the level of bursaries available for students from poor backgrounds. A third of students - those from the poorest backgrounds - now pay less than they used to.

If there is money available to reduce fees, we would rather use it to help existing students with the costs they face when they study.

The Liberal Democrats would also like to see improvements in the funding options for graduate students, where in most cases they have to pay their fees upfront, creating huge problems for social mobility.
