LIB DEMS LAUNCH PETITION FOR CITY CENTRE POLICE STATION

Cambridge Lib Dems have today launched a petition calling on Police and Crime Commissioner Jason Ablewhite to make good on his election promise to retain public access to city centre policing.

Lib Dem group leader Tim Bick commented:

“The Commissioner’s survey doesn’t really cut it for us. It only asks about one side of the equation, which is the location of the new HQ - and not about the situation it leaves behind in the centre of the city. As everyone knows that  can be pretty difficult to reach by car. A lot of people may well understand the arguments to move the major resource centre for the whole of the south of the county, but they wouldn't understand if that resulted in little or no 24 hour counter access to the police staff in the centre of the city, where it will remain badly needed, because of the concentration of incidents, the night economy and volume of visitors. So until he comes forward with a clear and proper plan for that, many in the city will not want to give carte blanche for the move from Parkside.”
