Cycle Link for Darwin Green

Our community calls on BDW Homes to open the cycle link from Darwin Green to Windsor Road as soon as possible, and connect our communities.

Planning permission for the cycle and pedestrian route from Darwin Green to Windsor Road was given in June last year, but sadly Barrett’s and David Wilson Homes have proposed that they will not open this route until 2026.  This is a wasted opportunity to help our communities come together.

Histon Road offers a flourishing shopping centre with Aldi, Iceland, the Co Op, an oriental store, Igbro greengrocer, pharmacy, cafĂ©, ballet school, two community centres, church and 2 primary schools.  The guided bus route A also offers a direct route from Histon Road to the train station and Addenbrookes.  All of these amenities sit with 10 minute walk of Darwin Green, but until the cycle/pedestrian link to Windsor Road is opened, Darwin Green residents have to to make a 1.4 mile trip to reach these facilities.  Similarly, for residents of the Windsor Road and Histon Road Area, the services provided in Darwin Green including the primary school will offer valuable amenities in near future, well before the route is proposed to open.

Opening the pedestrian/cycle link will benefit the whole area, as well as reducing traffic, as residents would be much closer to the local amenities and the guided bus route.

This petition will be submitted to BDW Homes to encourage them to open this route before 2026.
