Lib Dems welcome Combined Authority climate change progress - but call on the city to go further

Cllr Josh Matthews, Lib Dem Climate Change lead on Cambridge City Council, today responded to the publication of the Combined Authority's Climate Commission report.

Cllr Matthews said:

“The overall aims of this report are a step in the right direction—and they have our full support. However, the plan we’ve seen today is at a very high level—and there’s a lot of work still to be done. I hope these broad pathways can bring all local authorities, universities, businesses, and stakeholders together to develop the more detailed roadmaps necessary to get to net-zero carbon.”

“Cambridge City Council cannot afford to be complacent. It must realise the opportunity right before its eyes - and lead. It must set an example that other local authorities in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, but also nationally, can follow. Working with everyone in Cambridge and beyond, we need concrete plans based on evidence, assessments, and analysis—or Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, and beyond, will be too late in reaching net-zero.”
