Continuing fall in unemployment “excellent” news
Unemployment in Cambridge continues to fall and the news has been welcomed as “excellent” by MP Julian Huppert.
In April, 1,514 people were claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, down by 86 on the previous month and 201 lower than in April 2012.
“More and more people are finding jobs and that is excellent news,” said Julian. “This is very encouraging and proves that our economy is heading in the right direction.
“We are seeing month on month decreases in unemployment which is good news for the families behind these statistics, good news for the businesses which are creating these jobs and good news for our city as a whole.
“We have been fortunate in Cambridge to ride out the worst of this economic downturn but that has been little comfort for those people who have struggled to find work. I hope that more and more will find the job market easier and we will continue to see more jobs becoming available.
“Cambridge is a great city in which to do business. I hope more businesses will choose to make the city their home and our existing companies will continue to do well creating further opportunities.”
