cutlacks discovering cambridgeHardware store, Cutlacks, with 160 years of trading history, has won the homes and gardens category of MP Julian Huppert’s Discovering Cambridge competition for August.

Authentic Cakes in Wulfstan Way and Ark in St. Mary’s Passage were named as joint second place in the competition.

Staff at Cutlacks’ Mill Road store and the branch in Ely, pride themselves on traditional customer service and offer a large range of products including kitchen and bakeware, home furnishings, paint and DIY products.

The store also encourages people to produce their own home grown products by offering a wide range of wine and beer making kits, and chutney and jam making equipment and seeds and gardening equipment.

Manager, Steve Wynn is celebrating 50 years at the store next year and customers who nominated Cutlacks were full of praise for the business.

They said: “The staff are always friendly and I come away feeling like I’ve had a chat with old friends” and “it’s a great asset to the surrounding community”.

Julian, who launched Discovering Cambridge to celebrate the success of the city’s independent traders, said: “I am delighted Cutlacks has been named as our August winner.

“This company is a huge success story and still holds onto its traditional values of good customer service, reliability and a friendly attitude. We had dozens of nominations for Cutlacks and that reflects the fact that residents and visitors alike really value its contribution to Cambridge.”

This month Julian is asking for nominations for café and restaurants and is looking for places where people can go for a proper meal not just a coffee and a snack.

Nominations can be sent to Julian by email at [email protected] or by Twitter at @julianhuppert or by post at Discovering Cambridge, Julian Huppert MP, 16 Signet Court, Swann Road, Cambridge, CB5 8LA.

Julian is choosing a monthly winner for Discovering Cambridge and the overall competition winner will be named at the Mill Road Winter Fair in December.
