The council is planning to reduce the size of its Environment Enforcement Team by eliminating the role of Dog Warden and spreading responsibility for dogs among other members of its team. This loss of specialist expertise will come at the time the abandonment of dogs may increase due to increased financial hardship and when the Enforcement Team already has many other priorities such as the control of littering.
Concerned for the welfare of dogs and people using public spaces in Cambridge, we call on the City Council to pause and reconsider cutting back the specialist dog warden service.
