Liberal Democrat City Councillors have welcomed the decision by the Cambridge Licensing Committee to grant Cambridge Trishaws a license to work as Hackney Carriages in Cambridge.
The decision was taken in a Licensing Committee meeting chaired by Cllr Joye Rosenstiel and follows a long battle to overcome licensing difficulties with the tricycle rickshaws, known as trishaws.
Councillor Jennifer Liddle, who has been campaigning for this decision, commented:
"We're very pleased that trishaws have been licensed as taxis in Cambridge. They will be an interesting and environmentally friendly way to get around the City. I wish Christoph luck with his venture."
Christoph Fitih from Cambridge Trishaw Tours added:
"I would like to acknowledge the contribution of the City Council in getting Cambridge Trishaws through the licensing process. We would not have managed to achieve this without their intervention.
"When we set up Cambridge Trishaw Tours one of our main aims was to set up a service that we deemed to be beneficial to both our community and the environment. We believe that we've managed that with Cambridge Trishaws."
