David Howarth, MP for Cambridge, has described the local NHS as 'in a terrible mess'.
Mr. Howarth's remarks come ahead of today's meeting of the Board of Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust which will discuss news that the health trust is almost £17 million behind schedule in rectifying the £34 million deficit, bringing the debt to over £50 million.
Mr. Howarth commented:
"The NHS locally is in a terrible mess. The PCT's ever increasing debts will just mean even more cuts in the future. The Government is not doing enough to support the NHS in areas like Cambridge which are suffering from a huge deficit and serious service cuts.

"This latest news is very disturbing. The new PCT is going the same way as the previous one. With debts mounting every day, there seems to be no solution in sight."
