MP quizzes Minister over blood service cuts

February 24, 2007 11:00 AM

David Howarth, MP for Cambridge, has today questioned the Department of Health over plans to move specialist blood services away from Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Mr. Howarth commented:

"The Blood Service's reconfiguration plans seem to make little sense. The proposals suggest moving these specialist positions as far away as Bristol or Liverpool. Many staff will not be able to transfer to these areas.

"I have asked the Health Secretary, Patricia Hewitt, whether any consideration has been made of the costs and the risks of having to train up new staff to replace these experienced specialists."
