Lottery error could cost Cambridge

David Howarth, MP for Cambridge, has today criticised the Heritage Lottery Fund for failing to distinguish between Ely and Cambridge.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has included projects from all over Cambridgeshire, including Ely Cathedral and work at Devil's Dyke near Burwell in the tally of Cambridge projects to have received funding. Mr Howarth is concerned that this will jeopardise the chances of future projects in Cambridge receiving funding.

Commenting Mr Howarth said:

"It is ridiculous that a national body such as the Heritage Lottery Fund does not realise that Ely Cathedral is in Ely not Cambridge. The Lottery Fund is under the misconception that they have awarded 59 grants to Cambridge since the Fund was started but in fact 5 of these were to projects outside of the city and a good number were to Cambridgeshire County Council as a whole.

David has written to the Heritage Lottery Fund to complain

"I want assurances that future projects in Cambridge will not be penalised because of this mistake."
