Local MP David Howarth is calling for better support for the armed forces.
Mr Howarth has signed up to the Royal British Legion's 'Broken Covenant' campaign which is calling for the Government to honour its life-long duty of care to our servicemen and women. He commented:
"Our Armed Forces are overstretched and healthcare services for servicemen and women are failing to provide the quality of care they deserve.
"Lord Guthrie, the former Chief of Defence Staff, has described the handling of medical casualties from Afghanistan and Iraq as a 'scandal'. This situation should not be allowed to continue. The Government needs to do more to support armed forces personnel and their families.
David Howarth MP
"I'm particularly worried about the level of support for mental health care for service personnel. More attention should be given to the mental impact of service life on personnel and more should be done to alleviate the transition from military to civilian life."
