Tim Bick and Dr Salah Al Bander have been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidates to stand for the City Council on 1st May. This follows the decision of Cllrs Joye Rosenstiel and Philippa Slatter to stand down as city councillors.

Cllr Rosenstiel was first elected in 1982 with 47.5% of the vote and Cllr Slatter was first elected in 1995 with 45.2% of the vote.

Cllr Rosenstiel commented:

"It has been a huge privilege to have represented the people of Market Ward on the City Council. I have enjoyed meeting many of the residents over the years and campaigning on a number of issues."

"I am delighted that Tim Bick is standing for the Liberal Democrats in my place. I know that many of Market residents have already met Tim during the course of our ward survey and hope that they will give him their support on 1st May."

Cllr Slatter added:

"I have been a city councillor for Trumpington since 1995 and my present term of office comes to an end this May. It has been my intention for some time to stand down in 2008, so that I can spend more time on particular local community projects, develop my work as County President of St John Ambulance and also see more of the world with my husband now he is taking early retirement."

"Salah Al Bander is an incredibly valuable candidate and I am confident the people of Trumpington will give him their trust.
