Cambridge Liberal Democrats have thrown light on a project which will save ratepayers £33,000 a year and cut carbon emissions by two per cent.

They plan to install new generation LED energy efficient lighting in the annexe car park at the city's Grand Arcade.

Cambridge City Executive Councillor for Climate Change and Growth, Sian Reid said: "This new lighting will make a significant saving in our electricity costs and cut our carbon footprint.

"We have just signed up to the 10:10 Campaign, with a push to cut carbon emissions significantly next year, and this is a good start."

The £120,000 project will be funded with £100,000 from the council's Climate Change Fund and the remainder from council coffers.
