Cambridge's successful blue bins are being rolled out to businesses.
The move comes after 72 per cent of commercial customers questioned in a survey backed the introduction of the weekly collections.
There will be no need for Cambridge City Council to invest in more lorries for the expanded service at this stage but businesses will be charged to cover running costs. Income generated could be used to grow the service in the future.
Cambridge City Executive Councillor for Waste Services and Recycling, Mike Pitt said: "We have listened to businesses and they have told us they would benefit from the blue bin collection. We are rolling out the service to companies to meet that demand.
"This is exciting news as it will mean businesses will be able to recycle more and reduce the amount of waste the city sends to landfill. The simple system means only one bin is needed for all recycling which saves space and time."
