New Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, is being quizzed by Cambridge MP Julian Huppert over progress on the Adult Autism Strategy.
Julian is keen to push forward the strategy which his predecessor, David Howarth was instrumental in getting published.
He has asked Mr Lansley in a written Parliamentary Question, what guidance he plans to give to the NHS and local authorities on implementation of the strategy. He also wants to know what short and long term targets he plans to set as part of the strategy.
The three year strategy, "Fulfilling and Rewarding Lives", comes in response to National Autistic Society research revealing at least one in three adults with autism is experiencing serious mental health difficulties due to a lack of support.
The Autism Act gives the strategy legal force, meaning that local authorities and the NHS will be breaking the law if they fail to provide support for people with autism.
Julian said: "This vitally important strategy has the power to transform the lives of people living with autism. It gives them the recognition they need and deserve.
"Now I want to make sure that local services get the support they need to implement the strategy and make the changes that could make a real difference to people."
