More than 130 residents attended a public meeting called by Lib Dem ward councillors to discuss the threatened Alexandra Garden trees on Friday evening (October 15).

The meeting gave Cambridge City Council officers the chance to provide residents with the background to the issue. Residents were also able to ask questions of both officers and councillors

Alan Levy, Lib Dem ward councillor for Arbury, who chaired the meeting said: "The meeting was extremely useful in allowing residents to voice their concerns that an insurance company should force the council to remove the trees."

Rod Cantrill, Cambridge City Executive Councillor for Arts and Recreation said: "The meeting gave residents the chance to hear that the council is exploring all options available to avoid felling the trees."
