HuppertAmbitious plans backed by the government, which will see Cambridge businesses and civic leaders working together to create thousands of new jobs has been welcomed by the city's MP Julian Huppert.

The Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership is one of the first wave of 24 to be created throughout the country to empower locally driven growth, encourage business investment and promote economic development.

The landmark move is part of the government's new approach to rebalancing the economy and follows the announcement of a £1.4 billion Regional Growth Fund.

Julian said: "I am delighted that the government has given its backing to the Local Enterprise Partnership. A strong partnership can now be forged between businesses and local communities to focus on priorities using expert local knowledge.

"It is this type of joined up thinking and working that will bring great benefits for Cambridge, driving forward the city and giving businesses increased confidence to invest and create new jobs.

"The government's backing for this partnership along with its commitment to science funding creates excellent opportunities for the city to go from strength to strength.

Cambridge City Council Leader, Sian Reid said: "I am looking forward to working with businesses to further strengthen the city's economic base and support and encourage entrepreneurs.

"This partnership will be based on strong local knowledge of the priorities that we should pursue to improve our local communities and the business acumen to create strong companies and new jobs.
