Have your say on our complex tax system - Huppert

November 26, 2010 12:48 PM

Tax logoCambridge residents and small business owners baffled by the tax system are being asked by the city's MP, Julian Huppert, to say how it could be simplified.

Julian wants people to pass on their thoughts to the newly-created Office of Tax Simplification.

The OTS was set up in July by Chancellor George Osborne and will review existing tax allowances and reliefs and take a thorough look at all aspects of business taxation. It will not be reviewing child and work tax credits or benefits, however. More details can be found on its website at www.hmtreasury.gov.uk/ots

Julian said: "The tax system is highly complex for individuals and businesses and it can be really frustrating trying to get to grips with all the different aspects.

"This review is a real opportunity for the people of Cambridge to say how frustrating they find the system and how and where it can be improved. I hope as many as possible will take the opportunity to have their say."

Anyone interested in contributing to the review should send their thoughts to the Michael Jack, Chairman of the Office of Tax Simplification, GC 04, 1, Horse Guards Road, London, SW1A 2HQ by January 14.
