Police Commissioner pulls out of meeting as 9pm finish too late

Mike PittPolice and Crime Commissioner Graham Bright has pulled out of a neighbourhood meeting because the 9pm finishing time was too late leaving Cambridge Liberal Democrats furious.

Sir Graham had agreed to attend Cambridge City Council's North Area Committee meeting tomorrow (Thursday, February 6) as members set police priorities for the coming quarter.

But yesterday his PA told Chair, Lib Dem Cambridge City Councillor for West Chesterton, Mike Pitt (pictured) that he wouldn't be able to attend because he had early meetings on Friday and the 9pm finishing time for the meeting was too late.

It's the third time in a row that Sir Graham - who commands a salary of £70,000 a year - has failed to attend the meeting and leaves residents unable to question him about his plans.

Cllr Pitt said: "Sir Graham wanted the first slot on the agenda at 8pm but we were unable to help with that as young people were attending the meeting to hear plans for community facilities and play areas. We wanted to make sure they were not too late on a school night when they had to be up for lessons in the morning.

"We scheduled him as the second item on the agenda with a finishing time for the meeting at 9pm. But Sir Graham said he couldn't attend because he had early meetings on Friday and 9pm was too late.

"This is extremely disappointing. I'm angry that residents won't have the chance to ask Sir Graham about his plans for policing which are so important. It's the third time in a row he has failed to attend this meeting which covers important matters in the area."
