Lammas Land lighting trial launched after Lib Dem survey

July 11, 2014 1:29 PM

Rod CantrillA lighting trial has been launched across the foot and cycle path on Cambridge's Lammas Land after a Newnham Liberal Democrat survey of residents found that most supported some form of lighting across the open space.

The trial has been launched by Cambridgeshire City Council and a small number of solar studs have been installed on foot and cycle path and will remain in place until the end of September. If there is resident support for the trial, then solar studs will be installed along the length of the path. The scheme is being funded from the City Council's environmental improvement scheme.

Cambridge City Councillor for Newnham, Rod Cantrill said: "Three quarters of the residents surveyed told us they wanted to see some form of lighting along this path on Lammas Land.

"I am pleased that the city council has listened and launched this lighting trial. Low level lights will improve overall visibility and safety without detracting from the natural look of the area and in addition are a sustainable solution"
